I hate that there is a box of tissues in this shot. Please ignore. I’m trying to get past that type of thing because otherwise I wind up paralyzed and never accomplish anything because I’m always going back to either a) retake a shot so there is no box of tissues or b) I’m fiddling with photo editing software to chase down an errant box of Kleenex and all of a sudden it’s 4pm and the day is over as far as I’m concerned and on top of that no one cared about it in the first place so I, too, could have opted not to care about it.
Look at me! Not caring!
I love the living room. There is snow on the ground outside, lots of it, and we have fires in the fireplace most nights and it’s such a cool combination of tropical rainforest/cabin in the woods/post apocalyptic garden/home of feral nerds.
That’s lemongrass over on the right, and an alocasia (never sure about alocasia versus colocasia* and I’m not up for looking it up but I think that’s alocasia ‘Polly’.) Off camera but also in that corner are another random elephant ear (‘Black Magic’ but still small) and variegated society garlic which just started putting on new growth.
Technically I think alocasias tend to be triangle-shaped (think the letter ‘A’ for alocasia) and upright and colocasias are rounder (think ‘C’ shape-ish) and hang dowards but then we have things like a downward hanging A, like polly. I grow ‘polly’ half submerged in a bowl of water I fill weekly, though she drinks it in a single day.
All of the houseplants summer outside although this year I’m reconsidering the pothos because I’m training the vines in the house and unlike the other plants, I don’t think they *loved* being outdoors quite so much. Maybe I’ll move the younger ones out.
